Good day and welcome to my new Blog. I've wanted to create a blog for sometime and have finally found a blogging platform that I like.
I plan to share lots of background and behind the scens information on the photos that I create to help you better understand how I go about creating the various images that you'll see on my website and on my instagram feed. @jaxpropix.
A little about me
I'm 50 something, married and live in Central New Jersey, near Princeton. I've been in photography for about 20 years. I got started right around the time that digital cameras became mainstream.
I feel I spent about 15 years taking crappy pictures. Technically, my photos were fine. I new how to use all of the various functions on my camera and could take sharp, in-focus photos that were well exposed and composed. However, I was never really satisfied with the results.
About 5 years ago, I decided to go 'all-in' with my photography and if I really dedicated the time to my craft could I create images that I was satisfied with.
I quickly learned that while I was a good technical photogrpahy, my artistic skills were lacking. I've now taken probably 100 or more on-line classes, attended workshops, conferences and studied the work of some of the best photographers out there.
I can now say that my artistic skills have caught up with my technical skills and I'm able to take images that I'm happy with.
So the two things that I now know is that there are two sets of skills needed to take a truly great photo. You need to have a through understanding of how to use the camera. Equally as important you need to develop an artistic vision, where you can envision beautiful images and then apply your technical skills to creating that image.
Equally as important is the need to develoop great post-processing skills. Whether you're using Photoshop, Lightroom or some other software, you need to be able to use these tools to get the most out of your images.
When I'm not out taking pictures or editing those that I've taken, I spend a lot of time looking at other photographers work. There are so many amazing professional and amateur photographers out there. To me it's just incredible the images that they envision and are able to create
I'll stop at this point and say thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you'll stop by reguarly. If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to leave a comment below or shoot me an email at jaxpropix@yahoo.com.
